It is Well With My Soul

Key Passage: Psalm 22

Key Concept: In the middle of your pain, God is present.

Written by: Horatio G. Spafford in 1876

Music by: Phillip Blass

When peace like a river, attendeth my way,

When sorrows like sea billows roll

Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,

It is well, it is well, with my soul!

In the middle of your pain, God is still present.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

What is a soul?

Universal – everyone has one

Eternal – it is ever-lasting

Valuable – it was purchased

Christ died for our sins to save our souls – not in part, but in whole.

“He forgave us all our sins…” Colossians 2:13

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought

My sin, not in part, but the whole,

Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more,

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

Conclusion: When we trust in Christ our souls are at peace with God.

How is your soul today? What would you need in order to say, “It is well, It is well with my soul?”
